Sir,

COPY.

CONFIDENTIAL.

29th June, 1934.

With reference to correspondence on the

subject of the Seamen's Union resting with Sir Thomas

Southorn's Confidential letter No.19 of 24th April,

1934, I have the honour to forward a copy of a petition

received, with translation, from certain persons in

this Colony.

2. It will be observed that the names of the

signatories mostly correspond with certain names in Mr.

Kan Chieh-hou's letter to you dated 19th December, 1933,

a copy of which accompanied your letter No.94 of 22nd

December, 1933.

3. It is presumed that the terms of my letter

of 24th April were as requested communicated to Mr. Kan,

and I have instructed the Secretary for Chinese Affairs

to notify the petitioners of the position taken up by

this Government.

4. As there would appear from the tone of the

petition to be some possible misapprehension as to the

outcome of Mr. Kan's representations I shall be glad if

His Britannic Majesty's Consul General,

CAN TO N.
